Demo at the Arts Council Tues. 23rd August Demo at the Arts Council Tues. 23rd August

Hi,

The Arts Council are still giving yearly grants to animal circuses in Ireland. In 2010, Duffy's Circus received 60,000euro from them, and Circus Gerbola received 10,700euro.

They consider animal circuses an "art form", and even allow these circuses to submit their own animal welfare reports. I have been emailing them asking questions - as well as requesting to set up a meeting with them to discuss the matter in person - but they are continually choosing to issue me vague responses, without answering anything.

So please join us at their office on Tuesday, to hold posters, and hand out leaflets - we're hoping our presence will help make them more willing to engage with us about changing their grant policy, in regards to animal circuses.

WHEN: 2pm - 3pm, Tues. 23rd August

WHERE: 70 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.

They consider animal circuses an "art form", and even allow these circuses to submit their own animal welfare reports. For over a week now, I have been emailing them asking questions - as well as requesting to set up a meeting with them to discuss the matter in person - but they are continually choosing to issue me vague responses, without answering anything.

So please join us at their office on Tuesday, to hold posters, and hand out leaflets - we're hoping our presence will help make them more willing to engage with us about changing their grant policy, in regards to animal circuses.

Fur Farm Awareness Day in Laois Sat. 6th August
Hi,

We're launching a new campaign to ensure that a ban on fur farming is included in the upcoming Animal Health & Welfare Bill.

Part of this campaign will include touring the counties that have fur farms - to host awareness days, do leaflet drops, organise meetings with local councillors and TD's, as well as having protests at the actual farms too.

To start things off, we'll be having a simple 'Awareness Day' in Laois, home of Ireland's largest fur farm, Vasa Ltd.

WHEN: Saturday 6th August, leaving Dublin at 10am.

MEET-UP LOCATION & PLAN FOR THE DAY: Please email us for more details if you'd like to come or can offer transport.

PROTEST AT MINISTER COVENEY'S OFFICE IN CORK Friday 1st July
Hi,

It's time to bring the anti-fur message up close and personal to Minister Simon Coveney - by protesting his constituency office in Cork! It's easy for him to ignore us at the Dept. of Agriculture, which is why it's so important to make him face the fur farming issue, somewhere where it isn't so easy to hide away from the truth.

For the 200,000 animals murdered on Irish fur farms every year, we have to do all we can to ensure that a ban on fur farming is included in the new Animal Health & Welfare Bill.

If you'd like to join us on the day, please let us know as soon as possible so we can book you a seat in a car. Also, if anyone can offer transport, please get in touch.

MEETING AT: 9.30am, Friday 1st July, at the Hugh Lane Art Gallery on Parnell Square, Dublin 1. Aiming to be back in Dublin by 6pm. Don't forget to bring a vegan lunch with you!

ANTI-CIRCUS CAMPAIGNING Sat. 18th June

Hi,

Duffy's Circus will be in Tallaght from 15th - 26th June. South Dublin County Council refuse to let circuses use council-owned land, but unfortunately the 'Cuckoo's Nest' pub (Greenhills Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24) is allowing them to set up on their private grounds.

So in an attempt to gain support from the local community, we will be doing a door-to-door leaflet drop on the cruelty of animal circuses, as well as collecting signatures for a petition which will then be handed into the 'Cuckoo's Nest' - as proof that their potential customers don't support their association with animal abuse.

MEET AT: 2.30pm, Sat. 18th June, at the Central Bank (Dame Street, Dublin 2) to get the bus to Tallaght, which costs 2.30euro each way.

FUR FARM PROTEST AT DEPT. OF AGRICULTURE Tues. 31st May
Hi all,

I am sad to report the that ban on fur farming is in serious jeopardy.

After weeks of receiving varied reports on the situation of the ban, I got a letter from Minister Coveney's secretary, stating only that the "possibility of a ban on fur farming is being examined" as part of the new Animal Health and Welfare Bill.

The bill is already being drafted, and their aim is to have it completed and passed into legislation during the summer. So we have to act fast to ensure that a fur farm ban is included. After all the hard work we put into securing a ban with the Green Party, it is devastating to be practically back at square one just because the government is under new leadership. But we need to put all our energy into this right now - so please join us!

For the forseeable future, we will be outside the Dept. of Agriculture every Tuesday instead of the usual leafleting sessions. Action-alerts, fur farm protests, awareness days and a press tour will follow shortly.

PROTEST EVENT DETAILS:

WHEN: 12.30pm - 2.30pm

WHERE: Dept. of Agriculture, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.

---------- Forwarded message ----------

This month, we have a Day of Action against beagle suppliers and customers of
HLS. This day of action will be in memory of a beagle - '1264', just another
nameless victim of this absurdly cruel and misleading vivisection industry and
we are calling on activists to mark this day Friday, 29th April as a day of
action to remember the continuing victims of HLS and this barbaric, corrupt
vivisection industry.

With love, rage and determination - until all are free - SHAC x

--

#1264 Day - Day of action in memory of beagle #1264

“... the first dog I picked up was #1264, a female extra. She is extremely
thin and when I opened the cage door she had to drag herself to the door. When
I picked her up and put her in the exercise cage she didn't move at all and her
back-end collapsed under her. I put in the other female extra and #1264 just
huddled in the corner and didn't play.

I went and told Kevin... he came into the room. While he held the other extra,
he tossed #1264 into the back corner of the cage, several times. Each time, she
hobbled forward toward the open door. He said she was fine and left the
room.”
Michelle Rokke's Diary, page 22. (for the full diary, see:
http://www.shac.net/HLS/exposed/michelle_mokke_diary.pdf )

This is a day of action in memory of beagle #1264, one of hundreds of thousands
who have suffered and died horrible deaths inside HLS – each one an
individual with his or her own personality, fears, desires and feelings.

Hi,

On Saturday 12th February, we'll be having a leafleting event outside Dublin Zoo. Even if you can only spare 30mins to help the animals, by handing out leaflets or holding a poster, your time would be greatly appreciated.

With Dublin Zoo trying to put a positive spin on keeping animals in captivity (see:

WHERE: The main entrance of Dublin Zoo, in Phoenix Park, Dublin 8.
