CAFT Ireland's Official Launch of "Fur Farm Exposé Tour" Sat. 4th July
Hi, Saturday 4th July will be the official launch of our "Fur Farm Exposé Tour". Every Saturday in July, we'll be traveling to the fur farming counties in Ireland, setting up information tables, doing leaflet drops, and protesting outside the actual fur farms. We'll be kick-starting the tour in Co. Laois, home to Ireland's largest fur farm, where we protest every year. We won't be hiring mini-buses for these events, and are relying on activist's own cars for transport, so please get back to us us soon as possible to reserve a seat! Also, if you'd be willing to offer additional transport for the day, please get in touch.
The plan for the day: Meet at: 10.30am sharp, Sat. 4th July, outside the Hugh Lane Art Gallery (Parnell Square, Dublin 1) for pick-up. We'll be travelling to Portlaoise, Co. Laois, where we'll spend 2 - 3 hours doing a fur farm information table and also leafleting the town. Then, we'll be heading to Stradbally, Co. Laois for a big, noisy protest outside Vasa Ltd. Fur Farm. This is Ireland's largest fur farm - they kill over 45,000 mink every year there. We'll be finishing the protest by around 5pm or so, and should be back in Dublin by about 7pm. Please remember to get back to us as soon as possible if you want to come! Thanks, CAFT Ireland / National Animal Rights Association 086 8729 444

ANTI-CIRCUS DEMO Fri. 19th June
|
Hi, Instead of the usual Saturday demos, we'll be protesting Duffy's Circus on Friday 19th - where they are currently staying, in Whitehall, Dublin 9. Apparently Duffy's haven't been in Whitehall for 10 years, which is why it is important to make our presence felt. MEET AT: 2.30pm (sharp) at the Spire on O'Connell Street, as we'll be getting the 16a bus (at around 2.45pm) to Swords Road/Collins Ave. We aim to be set up outside Duffy's by 3.30pm, where we'll stay for about an hour or so. Then we will either take a break and come back to protest their second 'show' at around 6.30pm, or leaflet the surrounding area for a few hours instead. If you're not sure where we are on the day, feel free to call/text us: 086 8729 444. Hope to see you then! National Animal Rights Association 086 8729 444

PROTEST AT DUBLIN ZOO Sat. 11th April
|
|
Hi, On Saturday 11th April, as part of the CAPS (www.captiveanimals.org) "Zoo Awareness Weekend", we will be having a protest outside Dublin Zoo in Phoenix Park, Dublin 8. Saturday will also officially mark the launch our new anti-zoo campaign. It's been many years since Dublin Zoo was protested, and so from May onwards, we will be demonstrating outside the zoo on the last Sunday of every month (special thanks to Elayne, as it was her idea to start this campaign!). We have created a new Zoo page on our website (http://www.naracampaigns.org/dublinzoo.html) with lots of information on it (given to us by the excellent UK group, CAPS), so check it out! Here's the plan for Saturday: Meet at: 12noon (sharp) outside Connolly Train Station (Amiens Street, Dublin 1). From there, we'll be getting a Luas to Heuston Station, which is only a 10min walk away from the entrance of Dublin Zoo. We aim to be set up at Dublin Zoo by 1pm, and will stay there until 3pm. *Note that, as we are expecting to receive the same reaction we get when protesting animal circuses, we will be notifying the police beforehand, for our own safety. There is also a chance that police will remove us from the Phoenix Park grounds, so we may have to move to the nearest public street - so just call/text us if you can't find us. This is a very important event, so please do your best to make it. And if you could let us know if you're coming (so we can get an idea of numbers), we'd appreciate it. Thanks, National Animal Rights Association 086 8729 444

DEMO TO HIGHLIGHT NEW IRISH FUR FARMING EXPOSE Tues. 17th February
|
Hi, We anonymously received a video recently, containing footage taken inside 4 of Ireland's fur farms. It clearly showed the barbaric truth of this industry, which fur farmers are so eager to hide. Mink can be seen crammed into tiny cages (one farm had 5 mink per cage), in absolutely appalling, filthy conditions, many with no food or water available. A lot of the mink also exhibited the stereotypical behaviour of repetitive movements - a sign of extreme stress. We were able to get this footage made into a campaign video, which we will be releasing on Tuesday 17th February. As the Department of Agriculture are responsible for licensing fur farming - which they call a "legitimate farming activity" - we will be launching the video release there, with a big, noisy protest. A copy of the video will be handed in to the Department of Agriculture, as well as a letter and a report documenting the obvious breach of welfare legislation seen in the footage. A bundle of petitions collected recently, with over 2000 signatures on them, will also be given in. We will be issuing a press release nearer the time, and will be giving dvd copies of this shocking video to every member of the press that comes. A copy of the dvd will also be given to everyone who attends the protest. How can the Irish government let over 150,000 animals be murdered here every year, purely for fashion??? How can they ignore the passionate pleas of the Irish people, and allow this injustice to continue for the sake of 6 farmers??? Fur farms have no place in Ireland, and we want them banned - immediately. We never give in, and we always win - a fact which the Dept. of Agriculture obviously aren't familiar with. Please join us on Tuesday, and be a voice for the voiceless! Here are the details: WHEN: 12.30pm - 2.30pm, Tuesday 17th February WHERE: Department of Agriculture, Kildare Street, Dublin 2 See you then! Laura Broxson - 086 8729 444 CAFT Ireland / N.A.R.A.

Fur Farm Awareness Days (Thurs. 20th November)
|
 |
Hi, Myself and Kim are going to be in Athy from around 12noon - 2.30pm on Thursday (20th November), to do an information table on fur farming. We hope to get into a rota with activists from Kilkenny (thanks Suzy and Lorraine!), so that there'll be a fur farming stall in either Athy or Portlaoise (the two towns nearest Ireland's largest fur farm) every month. We'll be bringing extra campaign materials with us, for Suzy and Lorraine to have, so we won't be able to fit a third person in the car this time. However, seen as this will hopefully become a regular event (with us heading down from Dublin every 2nd month), please let us know if you'd be interested in coming along next time and we'll keep you posted. No specific day of the month has been designated yet, but it will always be a weekday, and you'd need to be in Dublin city centre by 10am. Info Table & Foie Gras Demo Sat. 18th October
|
 |
Hi, We'll be doing an animal rights information table on Sat. 18th October, from 12noon - 3pm, on Westmoreland Street (College Green, Dublin 2 - at the railings beside the Bank of Ireland). The reason we are doing the info table this Saturday, instead of the last Saturday of the month, is because we were asked by the Gateway to Hell campaign ( http://www.gatewaytohell.net/ ) to distribute leaflets on the Nepalese monkey trade this week. So because we don't have a Nepalese embassy here, we thought this would be a good way to spread the information and help the cause.
We'll also be returning to the Pearl Brasserie restaurant that evening, to have an anti-foie gras demonstration:
WHEN: 6pm - 8pm
WHERE: The Pearl Brasserie (20 Merrion Street Upper, Dublin 2)
We need as many people as possible to attend the foie gras protest, so even if you can't make it to help out at the information table, please try and come to that.
Thanks, hope we'll see you then!

CIRCUS DEMO Sat. 20th September (after fur demos)
|
|
Hi, In light of what happened to our comrade (http://www.indymedia.ie/article/89153) outside the Great European Circus in Navan, we are organising a protest outside the circus on Saturday - after we have finished the fur demos in Dublin. We'll be finished the anti-fur protests by 3.30pm, and we are suggesting we take an hours break, and then head for Busaras. We'll be aiming for us to get the 107 or 109 bus at 5pm, which will have us in Navan by 6pm - where we intend to stay for an hour at the very least. The Great European Circus is beside a shopping centre on the Trim Road in Navan, Co. Meath. It is extremely important that as many people as possible attend this protest - for the animals, and our comrade, we need to show these people that nothing that they could ever do, could ever deter us from fighting for the rights and freedom of animals. WE WILL NEVER BACK DOWN! Note that we will be notifying the police, to assure our safety. We may end up taking an earlier/later bus to Navan, so call/text us if you're not sure where we are: 086 8729 444 Thanks, National Animal Rights Association

FUR DEMOS Sat. 6th September
|
 |
Hi,
We'll be having a day of anti-fur demonstrations on Saturday 6th September, including one outside a new target (thanks Justine!) called 'Rouge'. We went into the shop recently, to try and speak with the manager (who turned out to also be the owner of the shop) regarding the fur items for sale. We were told that what they sell is ''only rabbit fur'', and when we attempted to explain the barbaric cruelty involved in the rabbit fur industry, we were very rudely told that she had ''no interest in this conversation''. So it's very important to show this shop that there are compassionate people in this country and fur will not be tolerated!
Here's the plan for the day:
12.30 - 1.30pm, Rohu Furs (2 Castle Market, Dublin 2)
1.30 - 2.30pm, Rouge (Clarendon Street, Dublin 2)
2.30 - 3.30pm, Sydney Vard Furriers (29 South Anne Street, Dublin)
*if Sydney Vard's is closed, we'll do Barnardo Furs (108 Grafton Street, Dublin 2) instead.
Hope you can make it!

HORSE RACING DEMO Sun. 27th April - Gowran, Co. Kilkenny
|
 |
We'll be having an anti-horse racing demonstration on Sunday 27th April, at Gowran Park Race Course in Gowran, Co. Kilkenny.
This is a very important animal rights issue, which we feel urgently needs to be highlighted in this country. 15,000 horses are bred, between Ireland and the U.K., each year for the racing industry. Two thirds of whom are killed every year - simply because they aren't ''good enough'' to make it on to become racers. Those that do make it are forced to endure a life of pain, stress and misery - just because of peoples' addiction to gambling - and the apparent need most ''people'' have to take advantage of other, more vulnerable, species.
The racing world is another ''forgotten'' industry of cruelty - with events seen only as a harmless, fun day-out. Well it's time the Irish people became aware of the truth, or at least forced to acknowledge it!
So please, for all the horses that will be used and abused on Sunday, join our protest and be a voice for the voiceless.
HOW TO GET THERE: We'll be meeting at 9.30am at Busaras, and we will be getting the 004 Bus to Gowran at 10am (it's a 2 hour bus journey - and the fare is only 15euro return).
This will be an all-day event (we probably won't be back in Dublin until about 8pm), so remember to bring snacks and sandwiches for yourself. And please let us know if you're coming.
Thanks,
National Animal Rights Association 086 8729 444

World Day for Laboratory Animals Thurs. 24th April
|
We won't be having any leafleting sessions on Tuesday, because we'll be organising leafleting events/demonstrations on Thursday 24th instead - to help highlight World Day for Laboratory Animals.
This is a very important day, so for every animal used in experiments in Ireland (almost 75,000 last year) and worldwide, please join us on Thursday.
Here's the plan:
12.30pm - Trinity College (the science building entrance on Lincoln Place/Westland Row, Dublin 2)
If we get enough people, we'll finish there by around 1.30pm and move on to SHAC targets AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals (College Park House, Nassau Street, Dublin 2), followed by Novartis (Regus House, Harcourt Road, Dublin 2).
However, if numbers are limited, we'll probably just stay at Trinity College for the afternoon.
Call/text us if you're not sure where we are: 086 8729 444
Thanks, hope we'll see you then!

3.30pm, Sydney Vard Furriers (29 South Anne Street, Dublin 2)
When we finish there, we'll decide which foie gras restaurant to target. It will probably be La Cave (also on South Anne Street) again, but we might try somewhere new - depending on how things go with the restaurants that we'll be contacting during the week. And remember, if you're in town on Saturday but can't find us, just call/text us.

Ban Fur Farming Demo at Department of Agriculture - Tues. 25th March
|
 |
On Tuesday 25th we will be having a 'Ban Fur Farming in Ireland' demonstration at the Department of Agriculture.
We will be handing in our petitions (which have over 5000 signatures on them!) and will hopefully get to discuss the issue with a representative of the Department.
This is a very important event, so we are asking that everyone please do their very best to attend. Especially at the beginning of the protest, as we are expecting press coverage - so we want to look as powerful as possible!
WHEN: 12.30 - 2.30pm, Tuesday 25th March
WHERE: Department of Agriculture, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
There are 6 fur farms in this country - so for the 150,000 mink and 400 foxes that get killed on these farms every year, let's show the government that the people of Ireland want this barbaric industry banned at once!
See you Tuesday!

FUR LEAFLETING SAT. 15th DECEMBER
|
| |
Hi,
I'll be having some anti-fur leafleting sessions on Saturday 15th.
I'll be starting at Barnardo Furs at 12noon, and will move on to other targets before finishing up at an earlier time of about 2.30pm. Call/text me on the day at: 086 8729 444 if you're not sure where I am.
The reason I'm not organising demos is that a lot of our members are busy at the moment (due to Christmas etc.), and so I can't guarantee that enough people will turn up. However, I will be bringing all of my usual campaign materials with me, so if we do get a good crowd we can alter the days tactics to our usual Saturday style!
Hope to see you then!
