Live Exports

As of February 2013, live exports resumed from Ireland after an almost 10 year ban. A move that Minister of Agriculture at the time, Simon Coveney, described as ‘progress’.

What we know about the conditions these animals endure on these long journeys is that they are unbearable and include deprivation of food and water, poor handling, overcrowding, and stress due to noise and vibration.

For these innocent animals, there is no relief at the end of the journey. As soon as they arrive at their destination, they are slaughtered.

Does this sound like
‘Progress’ to you?

Currently thousands of animals, mainly calves, are exported out of Ireland every week. This is unacceptable and we want a complete ban on live exports immediately.

Make no mistake though, we don’t want the animals murdered first, we want there to be a complete ban on all animal exports (alive or dead).

So, what are we doing about it?

Over the years we have protested dozens of restaurants serving foie gras - and had huge success in getting them to eliminate it from their menus. If you find any restaurant serving foie gras, please let us know so we can get in touch with them immediately.

Seen as a "luxury" item, foie gras isn't that widespread in Ireland, and therefore some people are unaware of what it is. If you see it for sale anywhere, please make a complaint - the more objections businesses get, the less inclined they are to sell it!

Foie gras is illegal to produce in Ireland, on grounds of animal cruelty, so why do we import it? It's time to campaign for an import ban - please lobby your local TD!
